This extensive 2-volume edition from the series Ukraine–Europe 1921–1939 is a continuation of the subseries Carpatho-Ukraine 1938–1939 that has already presented a 2-volume edition of hitherto unknown documents from Czech and Slovak archives, relating to the history of Carpatho-Ukraine, an autonomous state within Czechoslovakia in 1938–39 (see Карпатська Україна в документах Другої Чехо-Словацької Республіки). The current collection makes available for the first time an entire body of both already known and hitherto unknown governmental, political, military, and diplomatic documents from the Second Polish Republic that reveal Polish policies and actions regarding the formation of an independent Ukrainian state in Transcarpathia.

Volume 1 features introductory materials, including Oleksandr Pahiria’s detailed over 300-page essay outlining the history of the Polish involvement in the matters of Ukrainian national movement in Transcarpathia (aka Subcarpathian Ruthenia). Volume 2 (830 pages in length) contains various government, military, and diplomatic documents relating to Carpatho-Ukraine and drawn from Polish archival collections pertaining to the Second Polish Republic, 1921–1939.
